Bad Marine LLC is a Nebraska limited liability company, formed to build crash-reporting and roadway-safety analysis software for agencies that don't have the budget or staff of a large state DOT.
The tools that make data-driven traffic safety work — location resolution, benefit-cost analysis, collision diagramming, defensible grant applications — are real and effective, but they're mostly built for and sold to agencies that already have the budget to afford them. Small agencies are left doing the same work by hand, or without it at all, and lose out on the federal safety grants that reward exactly the kind of analysis they can't easily produce.
Bad Marine LLC's founder has watched that play out for years: small agencies steam-rolled out of grant money not for lack of good work, but for lack of the "big boy" software larger agencies take for granted. He works in traffic safety practice himself — not building for the field from the outside, but doing the work these tools are meant to support — and decided the fix was straightforward: build the same caliber of software, priced so a small agency can actually buy it. A Walmart approach to safety software, not a stripped-down one.
